It’s almost that time of year! Once the new year comes around hundreds flock to your local gym…and after a few weeks the turnout seems to go downhill. How come so many people make their resolution “to get in shape” in the new year and then never really accomplish that?
It’s because a new year’s resolution to “be healthy” or “get in shape” isn’t specific enough. If you really want to see your health or fitness level improve in the next year you have to make measurable and realistic goals. A lot goes into getting into shape and that is why so many people just give up.
My suggestion: make a specific resolution. If you want to get shape, pick a goal. For example, you can make your resolution to go to the gym at least three times a week. Or maybe it can be to be able to run a 5k by April. Maybe you will have two days a week when you don’t eat meat. Resolutions like these are specific and less intimidating than something like “be healthy”.
What are your resolutions for 2014?
Is it just me or is the holiday season a tough time to motivate yourself to workout? I have definitely been struggling to get a good workout in lately with long days but I have been trying to do some short workouts every night to get some exercise in. Something is better than nothing, right?
I’ve come up with a quick workout you can do this holiday season to stay on track. (Disclaimer: I am not a certified personal trainer. This is a workout I came up with to do myself and am sharing with you! Use your judgement/consult a doctor before any new workout.)
Santa’s Helper Workout (Repeat 3 times)
- 30 seconds high knees
- 10 squats
- 25 crunches (any variety)
- 30 second plank
- 5 push-ups
Do you have trouble working out this time of year? What do you do to get motivated?
I recently became a member of the Her Campus Blogger Network which has provided me with some awesome opportunities and the ability to interact with some great bloggers. One of the more recent perks was the chance to participate in a giveaway hosted by Self Magazine and Her Campus. The details? I received a Walgreens gift card in the mail and was told to go out and buy any two Aveeno products of my choice; upload my receipt; and be entered to win a FitBit Zip Wireless Activity Tracker (allowing me to learn more details about each of my workouts). Not a bad deal!
The first product that caught my eye was the Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash. As I have just started my first post-grad, full-time job- I have definitely been under some stress and thought a little I could use a little help after some long days commuting. As soon as I opened the bottle I knew I would love this products. The scent of lavender and chamomile were very relaxing and the body wash lathered up really well. It also made my skin feel very moisturized and helped to get rid of the sweat from my earlier workout. What I loved most about this product, however, was how gentle and revitalizing it was to my skin. Often when I workout, I develop a rash on my chest (sorry if that’s a little TMI). But the Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash made my rash disappear almost immediately. With all the body washes I have tried, I have never experienced that…making it a keeper in my book.
The next product I purchased was the Aveeno Naturals Daily Moisturizer. This moisturizer is perfect for sensitive skin as it is fragrance-less and contains soothing oatmeal. Usually I have to skip moisturizing my legs after I shave in the shower because most lotions irritate my skin and I start to feel a burning sensation on my legs. The Aveeno moisturizer was amazing and I felt no discomfort or burning when applying after shaving. Another perk: you can use it on your body and face! Eliminating the need for two different moisturizers.
Overall, I could not be happier with my Aveeno purchases. With winter in full force, our skin could use a little TLC…Aveeno is a great way to keep your skin happy all winter long.

Some songs for your December workouts!
